Tea staining is discolouration of stainless steel caused by coastal corrosion. While it may look unattractive, it is not detrimental to the structural integrity of the product. Most cases of tea staining occur within 5km of the ocean due to the salt in the air. The chemical balance of 316 “marine” grade stainless steel provides improved corrosion protection in these harsh environments.

Maintain your stainless steel by rinsing regularly with fresh water to remove salts and other corrosives from the surface. There are also many stainless cleaning products readily available in grocery stores etc. for the removal of fingerprints. We supply and recommend Marine Stainless 2 in 1 which both removes the tea staining discolouration and adds an invisible, protective layer for longer-term corrosion protection.
